Epilepsy/ Seizures:
-
About 326,000 American children under the age of 15 have epilepsy and 200,000 new cases of epilepsy are diagnosed each year.
-
Epilepsy affects people at different ages and in different ways.
-
For some, it will be a temporary problem, easily controlled with medication and outgrown after a few years.
-
For others, it may be a lifelong challenge affecting many areas of life.
If your student has a history of seizures we ask:
*You notify the nurse or administrator of your child's school.
*Upon diagnosis you fill out a seizure history form.
*Make sure to keep the school nurse informed of medication changes, or change in seizures.
*If your child requires medication at school make sure each year you have the child's doctor fill out a Medication Administration Form
*iF YOUR CHILD MISSES A DOSE OF THE SEIZURE MEDICATION OR HAS HAD AN INCREASE IN FREQUENCY OF SEIZURE PLEASE NOTIFY THE SCHOOL RIGHT AWAY SO WE IMPLEMENT ANY NEEDED PERCAUSIONS OR MONITORING.
* If your child requires special accomidations due to their condition you may choose to speak with the school administration about setting up a 504 Plan.
