Food Allergies:

                          In recent years food allergies are on the rise.  We recognize that many of our students face the challenge of dealing with these life

              threatening alleriges.  Our school is commited to doing everything we can to keep your child safe.

Steps that we take as a school:

                                  * Peanut free tables in every cafeteria.

                                  * Epi-pens at every school

                                  * Annual training of all staff on signs and symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction, and use of an Epi-Pen.

                                  * Resources on food allergies, including a school approved list of snack, are provided on  Unit 10 website.

                                  * Letters are sent out to parents of any class room where a child has a food allergy, informing them of any restrictions on snacks.

                                  * The school nurse and the food service department of each school keep an updated list of students with known allergies.

                                  * Food service reviews food labels to assess for the presence of the eight most common allergens in foods (i.e. Milk, fish, shellfish,

                                     tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.)

What you can do as a parent:

*Keep your child's school informed of what their known allergies are and common symptoms they experience.

*Each year fill out an Emergency Action Plan, and Medication Authorization for any needed medications .

* Notify the school if your child will be carrying their medication or if you will provide an extra to be kept in the office.

*If your child is particularly sensitive to their allergen you may choose to fill out an Individualized Health Plan to better assist teachers

and staff in keeping your child safe at school.  We are also more than happy to set up a meeting with staff to discuss

special consideration that may need to be made for your student.
